Jay HermanCoordinator, Collegiate Leadership Internship Program
Jay Herman is the coordinator of CLIP, a competitive undergraduate internship program with sites in New York and Israel that cultivates emerging professional and lay leaders in the Jewish community. Originally from the beautiful state of Colorado, Jay is a master’s student in Steinhardt School of Culture, Education, and Human Development, pursuing a degree in music education that will include certification to teach K-12 music in New York public schools. At his alma mater, University of Puget Sound in Tacoma, Washington, Jay revitalized the Jewish community as president of Hillel and as Interfaith Coordinator for Jewish Life. At NYU’s Bronfman Center for Jewish Student Life, Jay also works with Reform, Reconstructionist, Renewal, and non-denominational progressive students on campus to create opportunities for liberal Jewish engagement. Outside of work and school, Jay enjoys practicing marimba, vibraphone, and piano, listening to National Public Radio, and skiing the Rocky Mountains. Coordinator, CLIP: Onward Israel
Assistant coordinator, CLIP: New York
Ari Berkowicz is the Onward Israel coordinator and New York assistant coordinator of CLIP, a competitive undergraduate internship program that cultivates emerging professional and lay leaders in the Jewish community. Hailing from the city of Chicago, Ari is currently a graduate student at NYU, where he is pursuing a master’s degree in public administration and a master’s degree in Judaic studies. Prior to Ari’s studies at NYU, he completed a year of intensive Judaic learning at the Pardes Institute of Jewish Studies in Israel followed by a year in the Beit Midrash Program at Yeshivat Chovevei Torah in Riverdale, NY. As an undergraduate, Ari pursued his bachelor of science in psychology at the University of Maryland. In his free time, Ari enjoys film editing, traveling, and watching competitive cooking shows. Fellow, CLIP: New York
A proud CLIP 2012 alumna, Rebecca Berger is the CLIP fellow. In this role, she will be developing and executing CLIP’s alumni strategy (including coordination of the alumni leadership team), and assisting with administrative tasks through the busy application season. Originally from New Jersey, Rebecca is a senior at Queens College, where she is majoring in urban studies and minoring in the business and liberal arts honors program. Alongside her studies, Rebecca co-chairs the Shabbat committee at Queens College Hillel. She is responsible for developing Shabbat programming and themed Shabbatonim. Through CLIP, Rebecca had the opportunity to intern at the Samuel Bronfman Foundation. She was primarily responsible for creating and implementing an effective social media strategy.
